Battery
Monitoring
Battery Monitoring is designed to help customers
determine when they have a potential problem
with a battery string that could lead to a loss of
service of the battery string before the battery
fails. If one battery in a battery string has a
problem then the whole battery string can be
render inoperable and keep the UPS system from
being able to support the critical load.
Most UPS power failures can be traced to bad
batteries.
Even through customers maintain their batteries
properly, the batteries can develop failures
between maintenances periods that would not be
detected until the next maintenance period or
during a loss of power when the UPS or DC plant
tries to go to battery operation. With a battery
monitor, the battery string is constantly being
monitored for potential problems and will alert
personnel when problems are first detected.
Battery Monitoring can alert personnel to
batteries that have reached their end of life and
also to any terminal connection problems that
have developed.
Uninterruptible Power Systems manufactures
have found that the majority of problems
encounter with a UPS system is due to some type
of failure in the battery system. These failures can
be the result of lack of maintenance on the
battery system or a battery cell going bad due to
age or improper installation. A battery monitor
will be able to help prevent battery system
failures.

For customers who want a monitor that
measures and records every cell in a battery
string, we offer the CellWatch System. This
system that will tell personnel that the battery
string has developed a problem by measuring
individual cell voltage and ohmic value. With the
new DCM5+ customers can even monitor for
terminal run away on every battery jar. With a
modular design, the CellWatch battery monitor
allows easy expansion of the system.
